Meet Amy

Amy has enjoyed beautiful letters since she was very young. In grade school she learned cursive and even took an enrichment class where she learned italic and gothic scripts!

Completing an architecture degree at Ball State University, she practiced in that field for several years before she opened her own design studio creating wedding and event stationery.

After she and her husband Paul started their family, she rekindled her desire to practice the lettering arts. She joined the International Association for Master Penmen, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting (IAMPETH), later becoming a board member, and she became a certified instructor of the American Cursive Handwriting System created by Master Penman Michael Sull.

She currently teaches lettering, calligraphy, architecture, and interior design to students at Leaves of Learning in Cincinnati, in addition to teaching adults at locations around town and online. You can find her at local meetings of the Greater Cincinnati Calligrapher’s Guild, and at her home studio creating beautiful works of lettering art.

The name amo-ink comes from the initials for Amy M. Owens. Additionally, these three letters spell the Latin verb meaning “I love.” Amy does in fact, love ink.

Amy is a very knowledgeable instructor and has a fun personality! The Cursive Handwriting class for Beginners was interesting, useful and delightful to attend. Amy’s personalized homework feedback was extremely helpful.
